I was first taught to read and write by my mother. I vividly recall sitting at her kitchen table, surrounded by piles of paper, crayons and pencils. I would fold sheets of paper, covered with crayon words and drawings and imagine they were books, that I gave my toys to read.
That kitchen table was a place of magic. From it's surface, islands, forests, planets and magic worlds unfolded. This was where I began learning the skills for life's journey. My mother told me "I knew I couldn't teach you everything, but if I could teach you to read then you would always be able to find what you need to know" Reading is such a powerful gift. It is my joy to be able to share the magic and I hope that my books and pictures bring delight and inspiration to others of all ages.
I grew up inspired by a deep love of wild nature and a passion for books. Some of my earliest memories are of learning to read. I wrote stories as soon as I could put words onto pages and used to write and draw on folded sheets of paper, imagining them as books. This was the beginning of my lifelong love of writing, painting and illustrating.
I first began working to commission as an artist while still a teenager and continued with a focus upon subject matter that reveals the depth of beauty in the natural world. Having successfully pursued other professional paths for some time, I was prompted by my love of nature, to return to writing and art full time, to create books and art that inspire others. Illustrating my own books was a natural progression that allows me to add visual depth to the written word. Combining both I can make storytelling a more multi-faceted experience for the reader.
I live in the UK with my dog Monty, where I travel with him at my side in search of new stories to tell that portray the magic of the wild, natural world. Together we have various creative projects planned, including forthcoming books.
You can find out more about my artwork at my other website https://azimuthart.co
My best friend Monty (pictured) is my companion, muse and guide, as well as being the subject of 'Conversations with my Dog'. Together we search out stories to tell and will be adding more details about these as the site develops. Monty will be popping up at regular intervals to contribute!
I have several forthcoming titles. These include a sequel to Conversations with my Dog, a new children's book and a title for adults about our connection to the wild, natural world and why it is vital to us for maintaining our health and ability to find our way through life.
My books aim to inspire, empower and encourage others on their way through life, whatever their age or experience. As well as the two shown, I have several titles planned.
I am an artist and illustrator, adept in an array of media and with a strong creative range.
If you are working on your own writing project and would like me to illustrate I'd be happy to collaborate. Send me a message to discuss your requirements!
I produce artwork to commission, in a variety of media including pet portraits. Full details are at www.azimuthart.co
Long ago in human history, people moved nomadically from place to place according to the seasons. We lived closer to the wild and our daily lives were more interconnected with the natural world. Once humans learned to make fire, the hearth became the gathering place where people came together to share warmth, sustenance and ideas. It became symbolic of sharing knowledge.
My writing and art are inspired by the wild world and our connection to it. I believe that we are all travellers on entwining roads so I have named my website 'The Nomad's Hearth' to describe the spirit of sharing light and warmth. I hope my work brings you joy. Maybe the sparks from this nomad's hearth will ignite positivity and inspiration in your life.
